ALLY McCoist has spent the week chewing over what Rangers side to pick in their meeting with SPFL Championship leaders Hearts tomorrow.

And the manager has some big calls to make in a game at Tynecastle that could make or break their entire season.

I know he was bitterly disappointed with how his side played in the 1-1 draw with Alloa at the weekend. Words will have been said both during and after the shocking showing at home against part-time opponents.

It was probably the League One champions' poorest performance of the entire 2014/15 campaign.

I am sure Ally has asked himself: "Do some of the players have the right attitude?" So just who does he pick to get a result against Robbie Neilson's undefeated team?

If Lee Wallace is fit then he will slot straight back into the starting line-up at left-back. He is consistently one of his side's best performers.

But does Ally then play Stevie Smith further up the field? He has often struggled in the matches he has been involved in this season.

Elsewhere, does he keep faith with David Templeton out wide and hope a game against his old club kick starts his season?

Every time David comes on as a sub he seems to do well. But his play often leaves a lot to be desired when he starts games. He was certainly poor at the weekend.

If he could find form against the Jambos and get at the full backs it would help his side's cause enormously. But can he?

Defensively, Rangers have been fine. The late goal they lost to Alloa was poor. But by and large they have done well at the back.

They had gone six games without conceding a goal before their draw with the Wasps.

They will have to get back to the form that saw them go over 540 minutes without conceding. Because they will be playing a side that likes to get forward and attack with pace.

When Hearts beat Rangers at Ibrox on the opening day of the league season in August they soaked up the pressure and hit them on the break.

I think it is important that the home team aren't given space in the middle of the park to run into.

Nor can they afford to give the ball away as easily as they have done at times this season. So I can see Rangers taking a cautious approach.

I would imagine they will start off playing in a 4-1-4-1 formation, with just one player up front and two wide men.

Sure, Rangers want to win. But they have to come away from the capital without having been beaten. I think if you gave Ally a point now he would take it.

Having said all that, I don't think Rangers will park the bus. They have to get forward when the game allows it.

But who does Ally go with up front out of Kris Boyd, Nicky Clark, Jon Daly and Kenny Miller? He has a huge decision to make there. Clark must feel very hard done by.

He started the season well yet found himself warming the bench. Boyd was poor against Alloa. Whether to drop him tomorrow is a big call for Ally. Jon Daly is available once again and is looking good. Does he throw him in and play Miller just off him?

Whoever is named in his starting line-up, every player has to work their socks off.

And seven or eight of the players have to produce their best football if they are to get a result. But Rangers have got the personnel to beat Hearts.

The two teams are well matched. What it will boil down to who has got the bottle. Who can handle the pressure?

There will be an intense atmosphere. But playing away from home is easier for Rangers at the moment. Ibrox is not an easy venue for them just now.

Any mistakes they make are pounced on and the players are given a hard time. That is not the case to the same extent away from home. Rangers will only take around 900 supporters through tomorrow.

The Rangers players have to take responsibility and go out there and grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

Rangers have individuals who won't be frightened by a massive occasion like this. Those big name players are going to have to be up for it.
