DAVID ROBERTSON has urged Rangers to recapture the spirit of '92 and make it another night to remember at Hampden on Sunday.

The left-back lasted just six minutes of a famous Old Firm semi-final clash more than two decades ago and had Ally McCoist to thank as he netted the only goal of the game to see off Celtic.

Robertson emerged from the dressing room to watch the second half unfold after McCoist had put Walter Smith's side ahead on the stroke of half-time.

The Gers had to dig deep to record a memorable win, and Robertson said: "Celtic did what they always did in those days and they pounded us. We managed to hang on and I was more relieved than anyone else.

"It was a great occasion, but I still felt as though I had let everyone down. It was typical of our team at that time as we would fight through anything. Even when our backs were to the wall, we would always get results.

"I was at Rangers for six years and on so many occasions we were up against it, but we still always came through. It was remarkable that everyone still had the motivation to keep doing it week in and week out. "

Four years after their last meeting at the National Stadium, Rangers and Celtic will do battle at Hampden once again this weekend.

Kenny McDowall's side are huge underdogs for the Old Firm clash, but Robertson is keen for the Light Blue legions to play their part.

He said: "Hopefully the Rangers supporters forget about the turmoil that's going on and really get behind the team and make it a bit of a spectacle.

"Having spoken to some people since I've been back here, a lot of them are fearing the worst about what's going to happen, but things never happen that way.

"Rangers are the underdogs, probably for the first time in a long time in any game, but it's a good opportunity for the team and the players to try and prove people wrong."
