DEAN SHIELS hopes he can become central to Stuart McCall's plans after impressing in the middle of the park at Easter Road.

The Northern Irishman has spent most of the season on the fringes at Ibrox and has made just 19 appearances for the Light Blues this term.

He has been handed starts for two of the three matches that McCall has taken charge of, however, and played a key role for the Gers as they earned a 2-0 win on Sunday.

Shiels said: "I've played in a midfield three lots of times at Hibs and at Doncaster. I really enjoy playing in there - it's the first time that I've done that for Rangers and it feels quite natural and comfortable to me.

"You get plenty of the ball when you play in that position and that's one of my strengths, so I'm really enjoying it."
