RANGERS today set a winning seal on their North American tour with a 1-0 win over Ottawa Fury. Nicky Law grabbed the only goal of the game with a stylish strike just before half-time.

Fit-again Lewis Macleod produced a moment of magic to turn in between two defenders in the box before teeing up Law who found the opposite top corner with a right-foot effort.

And it should have been two, but Kenny Miller's second-half strike was ruled out for offside.

The win in front of 8000 fans at the TD Palace delighted Ibrox boss Ally McCoist who shuffled his pack to make eight changes from the team that started against Victoria Highlanders.

He said: "I don't think there's any doubt it's our best performance here. We were miles better than we have been in the previous games.

"I thought we were good value for our 1-0 victory. We could and probably should have scored more.

"I don't know what Kenny's goal was disallowed for and he should have scored another one in the first half.

"We had chances at set- plays and we looked a lot more solid defensively, so we're very pleased with the performance."

Among those who impressed on the night was skipper Lee McCulloch who came close on several occasions in the first half to breaking the deadlock.

Miller also had chances to put Gers in front before Law's opportunism put McCoist's men in the ascendancy.

Rangers remained firmly in control throughout the second period, but failed to add to their tally. Miller came closest to doubling their advantage but his strike was chalked off for offside - much to McCoist's frustration. Only three players - Ian Black, Calum Gallagher and Darren McGregor - survived from the starting line-up which began in British Columbia on Monday.

And the Ibrox gaffer was happy bringing back in his more established players against the NASL hosts.

He told the club's official website: "We played a far stronger side tonight. We played the lads down in Sacramento then tried to leave them out on Monday and play them here.

"We gave a lot of the fringe players an opportunity in Victoria and we won the game which was important, but we were a little bit disappointed with the level of performance.

"As disappointed as we were then, I think we've got to be equally happy with how we did against Ottawa."
