UEFA have handed Celtic a £1.6m windfall from their unexpected Europa League campaign last year.

The Hoops were given a second chance in Europe's second competition after FC Sion were booted out by European football's governing body for fielding players who were not registered after a transfer ban.

Celtic went on to finish third in their Group I, behind eventual winners Atletico Madrid and Udinese, but ahead of Rennes.

Uefa today announced the distribution of £118m worth of prize money.

And Celtic pocketed £1.6m for going out in the Group Stages. They earned £503,000 for participating, £283,000 for a match bonus, £275,000 for a performance bonus and £512,000 as a market pool from Uefa.

The SFA also received a £543,000 bonus for Scotland's clubs' displays in Europe.'

Winners Atletico got £8.25 for beating Athletic Bilbao in the Final.
