BILLY REID is confident his young Hamilton stars will continue to flourish in top-team action.

Accies kick off the new campaign with a Ramsdens Cup home tie against Lanarkshire rivals Airdrie United tomorrow.

Reid said: "When we go and play in the way we can, then we can play against anybody.

"We have to go and make sure we turn that into wins. We are a bit inexperienced and I think it shows at times but, as I have said before, this is a fantastic group of players we have got here.

"My job is to make them go and play in the right manner and go and progress these young men and make them better players.

"I think we are certainly doing that at the moment.

"It is a derby game and a must-win for us. We will come out and play in the same manner – we are learning all the time. We have got to pick up on the basic mistakes and you only get that through games. Once this group gets 30, 40 games under their belts, you will see a very different side."

Reid is set to strengthen his side with the capture of defender Martin Canning.

The 30-year-old had been training with Accies after leaving the club at the end of last season but, after appearing twice in pre- season, he is set to sign up.
