Steven Davis last night insisted he had walked away from Rangers with a barrowload of good memories – and begged fans not to turn on him over the decision to quit the Ibrox newco.

The former captain quit crisis-torn Rangers at the weekend when he signed for newly promoted Southampton.

After signing a three-year deal for Nigel Adkins' club, Davis insisted he had given his all for Rangers during four years at the club.

He said: "I always gave 100%. I loved my time at Rangers and it's unfortunate the way things turned out. I am proud of what I achieved."
