IT was a clean sheet to begin a clean start for Scott Fox as the Partick Thistle goalkeeper looks set to quit Firhill.

First brought into the Jags back in 2010, the shot-stopper, who played in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Motherwell, is ready to step up his pursuit of silverware away from Maryhill.

It is understood the 27-year-old has rejected an offer to stay on at Thistle, and is now looking at either going south of the border or switching to another team in the SPFL Premiership to both win trophies and keep himself in contention for a Scotland call-up.

He said: "Thistle have offered me a contract, but I've rejected it. I think it's time for a new challenge.

"It's up to my agent and he's going to make a few phone calls this week then we will start talking.

"They have offered me stuff, but I want to go and challenge myself, push at a high level and try and win trophies."

Fox added: "The top half of this league would be a step up. I don't want to go sideways, I want to go up and that's where my agent comes into it. Hopefully he gets a club I can see myself going to and kicking on at.

"I wouldn't say no to a club down south either. It's something I'd need to sit down and talk to my girlfriend about. We're getting married next year, so all that comes into it."

While Fox is keen to progress in his career, he is also well aware of what he may be leaving behind.

Having spent half a decade at the Jags, he has developed a strong affection for the Glasgow club that makes parting that much more difficult.

He said: "It's been brilliant. I've loved every minute of my five years here. It's rare these days to get someone at a club for that long.

"I think Saturday was my 150th appearance, so it was a good journey."

The keeper added: "After Christmas time, I think I felt I needed a new challenge to push me. I'm going to miss coming to Firhill every week, but sometimes these things you need to do as a footballer."
