LAST Saturday was a special day for Glasgow Warriors as we recorded a very satisfying 22-8 win over Munster in the RaboDirect PRO12 in Limerick.

And part of our squad was also taking part in the Melrose Sevens - and emerged victorious.

But difficult games are coming up thick and fast now and our focus is already firmly on another tough outing against Ulster at Scotstoun tomorrow night.

Ulster are ahead of us in the league table - but we have been playing a lot of teams in that position.

We have had the Ospreys and Munster in recent weeks. Now we have to square up to Ulster.

These are among some of the best teams in the whole of Europe. But we can go into the game with confidence.

What impressed me most at the weekend was our workrate and how we kept taking the game to Munster. It was a very fast-paced game - the amount of time the ball spent in play was by far the highest we've experienced this season.

It must have been a strain on both sides as each set of players put in a lot of tackles.

But there was a real desire among our players to stop the opposition scoring and there were two or three try-saving tackles, which epitomised the will to win that was evident throughout the team on Saturday night.

I was also pleased with how we attacked, and how we kept hold of ball up against one of the best defences in Europe.

But we are under no illusions about how difficult a challenge Ulster will be. They have a tough run-in as well and will be looking to take maximum points.

Most of our lads came through the Munster game unscathed. But we have a few bumps and bruises.

Playing on Saturday and then Friday is a short turnaround. We will give our injury doubts as long as possible to prove their fitness.

We are pleased to sign Murray McConnell, one of our former Elite Development players, on a one-year contract this week. He will join us on a full-time basis in the summer.

The 21-year-old scrum half has worked very hard with Ayr and has got a solid base to his game.

His passing and his kicking are sound and he has developed his attacking game. Workrate and toughness are so important for scrum-halves and Murray has shown these qualities this season for Ayr.

He will add a further layer of competition at nine and I'm sure he will fit in well once he becomes a full-time player in the summer.

We have also re-signed back row men Rob Harley and Tyrone Holmes on two-year contracts this week.

ROB has been one of our most consistent performers. He has played in more minutes in competitive games than anybody.

And Tyrone has battled with Chris Fusaro for that openside flanker jersey all season.

We have been trying to build for the future by securing the services of all our key players and hopefully that will continue.

I was delighted that we were invited to be involved in the Melrose Sevens and we approached the tournament in a professional manner.

The team was very well coached by Kenny Murray. We got better as the competition progressed.

To beat Edinburgh Accies in the final capped a fine week. Our goal is to build on this and ensure we keep the momentum going over the next few weeks.
