Morton manager Jim Duffy believes that the experience of Peter MacDonald can help the Greenock side to maintain their promotion aspirations.

The striker is expected to return to the starting line-up this afternoon for the journey to Peterhead after a procedure on his back to correct two bulging discs.

And Duffy is confident that his return can enhance Morton's bite in the final third.

"What he brings to us is experience and a natural reading of the game," said the Morton boss.

"He knows what is expected at this level and he has a wee bit of quality that we lack when he isn't in there.

"He has trained and feels OK. He didn't have an operation, it was just a procedure, but we hope that it has cured the problem."

It is a long journey north to Peterhead this weekend but Duffy has rubbished any suggestion that the travelling before the game has an impact on the performance during it.

He does, however, hope that the elements are not too troublesome.

"I always think it is a bit unfair to go on about the journey up there because they have to do it every other week," he said.

"If you want to win the league then you need to go to any ground and win, that's the bottom line.

"I do think that the weather can be so unpredictable and that can hinder you a little during games.

"If it is really windy and blustery it is hard to get the ball down on the deck and play football but, again, that applies to both teams.

"Peterhead are up there challenging too. If we can come out of this game with another win then we'll be delighted.

"What we have given ourselves just now is a little bit of momentum. That in turn leads to a self belief that you can go anywhere and get a result and there's no doubt that we are in a good place just now.

"But we need to just keep chipping away and see where that takes us.

"I know I harp on about it every week, but this is a league where one slip can prove to be very costly. It is imperative that we maintain our focus.

"If we are in the position that we are come April then we can start to think about titles but right now it is about keeping the points coming in."
