Despite the amount of purchases I have made at Internationale some years ago & more recently Au Naturale - the quality of stock & items for sale there has definately slumped.
If sales have slumped - then surely they need to focus far more on [italic]"Quality Not Quantity!"[/italic]
Some items in Au Naturale recently have been no better then the crap & trash we can buy at the pound shops littered accross the city.
Maybe this should be a wake up call to the chain & those who buy in its stock.
Lets see some decent quality items for sale, not the junk of recent months!

Nobody owes these companies. If their products are not up to scratch they will just go under. It's a cut throat industry after all.

Quality has slumped, no question. Perhaps if they put some air conditioning into their shop in Argyle Street, customers might actually want to shop there. The heat is insufferable.

Cheers, Glorious Failure. . . . .
Just say things as I see them! No beating about the bush, or faffing around.
Those who want to sit on the fence or push their pens should go into politics.
Those who want action taken when there is a failure to deliver & quality services given without thought need to push harder for them.
If we sit back and take what we're given, and don't complain, boycott companies, or change our line of thinking, way of doing or how we carry out our everyday life - how can we expect improvements to be made ?
Roll on the revolution!!!!

You see this kind of thing so often with firms expanding faster than is financially sustainable, and in the kind of sectors that will be among the first to be hit by any downturn in the economy.
Eveyone's bought something from Internationale - be it a cushion or a vase or whatever, but there is the sense that the stuff you buy there is kind of disposble and it's when people have to start looking at their disposable income that some of the 'lower end' shops will lose out - more so than the high end retailers.
Everyone wants to make a buck but you've got to watch your back when doing so.
Feel sorry for the workers there though. And it won't help anyone having these big stores lying empty.

The problem we have here is that peoples income & wages are not as disposable as the stock of Internacionale or Au Naturale.
People are suffering from the credit crunch, tighter finances, saving for holidays, trying to pay their mortgages and find the money they need for everyday expenses & living. . .
That little bit extra, or that treat, indulgence & un-necessary tat we are sucked into buying has fallen down on the list of priorities.
Vases & cheap household items, aren't quite as popular as the clothes for summer holidays or dosh for our weekends drinking sessions.
Like you Pete - I'm not without sympathy for the staff, but its all part of our boom & bust economy.
The rough with the smooth, good & bad (etc.)
When we have so much competition in the high street & retail industry with the huge overheads shops need to stave off with healthy profit margins, is it any wonder so many shops come & go on our high streets today.

Totally, sod the vase, I'm off to the pub.
Literally. I am actually off to the pub. Bye.

As stated by previous posters most of the stock sold in stores such as A Natural is low -quality junk and Im not surprised they may close that's the way life goes, hopefully the staff will find other jobs. It wont be long before another such junk provider takes the place of these stores..

I hope staff can get fixed up quickly.
I think this may be the start of people looking carefully at what they spend.I see coffee and sandwich franchises opening up all over the place and wonder how people can afford to pay the inflated prices for a coffee and a baguette. The cost soon mounts up.
Fiver a day for a coffee and roll.Back to office kettle and sannies.

there was a great column in The Times (the London one) last week on exactly the same subject. By Martin Samuel - worth checking out.

Pete,
I read the article you refer to and was basing my opinion upon it as it certainly made sense.
