A HI-TECH company is bucking the recession by recruiting dozens of extra staff at its new Clydeside headquarters.

Executives at BiP Solutions are on track to hire 100 new staff two years ahead of schedule.

The jobs boost comes shortly after the company moved its 160-strong workforce from Park House, near Shawfield Stadium, to a new 26,000 sq ft building at Pacific Quay.

The cost of relocating from Rutherglen to the rear of the Science Centre in Glasgow's new dedicated digital media quarter is said by the company to have been "significant", but was eased by a £800,000 grant from the Scottish Government. Part of the package involved a guarantee of 100 new jobs to bring the workforce up to 260.

With 40 new staff already on board, publishing director Grahame Steed said: "It is possible we might have recruited all 100 new staff before the target date in two years time."

He added: "This is a very exciting time for us. There can't be many companies in Glasgow or elsewhere for that matter which, given the current climate, are pushing for more staff to come in."

BiP Solutions develops software and IT packages to enable the public and private sectors to better interact with each other via the internet. The company is used by both local and central government to highlight contracts which the private sector can bid for.

It also publishes a number of magazines, including the widely read defence contracts bulletin produced on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. Exhibitions are another speciality. The firm organises the annual procurement exhibition Procurex Scotland at the secc and next year plan the first ever Procurex UK event in Birmingham.
