10,000 complaints sink grass-cutting contract

MORE than 10,000 complaints were received from irate Glasgow residents after a money-saving gardening scheme collapsed.

In previous years, city council staff cut the grass of 17,000 older people and householders who were unable to do the job.

Last spring, to make planned savings of £700,000, it was decided to transfer the service to Glasgow Regeneration Agency in the hope of providing training for young people and long term unemployed.
