The body of Kasey Craig is thought to have been discovered by her grandfather when she went to get her ready for school.

On Friday, Kasey had been cheered on by her whole school after performing the Robbie Williams hit, Candy, for Red Nose Day.

Ambulance crews fought to revive Kasey but she was declared dead at the scene at Tourhill Road, Kilmarnock, yesterday morning.

The tragic news was broken to her classmates at the town's Onthank Primary School by the school chaplain, Reverend Susan Anderson.

Ms Anderson said the news had affected the entire local community.

The sports-mad P7 youngster recently won a medal after competing in the Ayrshire schools athletic championships – with a broken arm in plaster.

Ms Anderson said: "I went into the school and met her close friends first of all, then the P7s and then I spoke with each class in turn and supported them through the day."

One of Casey's schoolfriends said: "Everyone was crying. We talked about all the things we would remember her for.She had so much going for her."

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: "A post-mortem examination will take place to establish the exact cause of death but there appear to be no suspicious circumstances."
