JUSTICE finally caught up with William Jennings when he was jailed for

life yesterday for murdering his three-year-old son more than 26 years

ago.

''This is the day of judgment for which you have been waiting since

December, 1962,'' said Mr Justice Otton at the end of a nine-day trial.

Leeds Crown Court was told that after murdering his son Stephen at

their former home in Little Gomersal, West Yorks, Jennings buried his

body under a pile of stones in a field.

He reported the child missing and Britain's biggest hunt was launched.

The skeleton lay undiscovered until last year when a dog sniffed out the

boy's remains.

After reaching their unanimous verdict, the jury was told that

Jennings and his former wife, Eileen Goodall, Stephen's mother, were

jailed for 18 months three years after he disappeared for neglecting

another child, two-year-old Barry.

Jennings, of Albrighton, Wolverhampton, who has remarried, had

admitted manslaughter but denied murder.
