DETECTIVES are believed to have found a getaway car used in a double shooting.

Police investigating the murder of George Redmond, who was gunned down in Glasgow city centre, have recovered a Porsche Cayenne.

The stolen 4x4 was abandoned in a luxury housing estate in Gartcosh, Lanarkshire.

Forensic experts were believed to be examining the vehicle to see if it can be linked to the murder in Glasgow's Cambridge Street.

Mr Redmond and his pal John Maguire, both 42, were shot as they stepped outside the Waldorf Bar on Monday, October 6.

Police were alerted on Saturday and the vehicle was towed away from Heathfield Park.

Officers said at this stage they were unable to confirm if this was the vehicle being sought in connection with the murder.

Mr Redmond, originally from the Possil area of Glasgow, and his friend were gunned down in a hail of bullets around 22.25pm on Monday, October 6. He died a short time later in hospital.

Mr Maguire suffered serious injuries and was released from hospital last week.

Detective Super-intendent John Riggans, officer in charge of the investigation, said: "We have already revealed that the Porsche Cayenne which was used by the suspects was bearing false plates, registration number LJ05 FHR.

"As a result of inquiries and public response, we have established the route taken by the suspects following the shooting."

The Porsche travelled on the M8 eastbound and was then seen in the Wishaw area.

Det Sup Riggans added: "Around the time of the shooting, two men, aged early to mid 20s, were outside the Thistle Hotel in Cambridge Street.

"Both these men, who appeared to be together, had Alsatian dogs.

"I am sure they must have seen something and I would urge them to get in touch.

"We also still want to speak to the driver of the dark coloured convertible, parked outside Farmfoods that night and the person who made the call from a call box in the West End of Glasgow the following day."
