MUM Jane McDonald has taken delivery of her best Christmas present - keys to the 100th new Glasgow Housing Association home.

Mrs McDonald is one of 239 tenants being re-housed from properties targeted for demolition in the Red Road and Sighthill areas.

She was delighted to move into her three-bedroomed semi-detached house after Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon handed over the keys.

Jane and her husband raised four sons in the 26 years they stayed in the area. Her new house in Avonspark Street is now home to the couple and their two youngest sons.

She said: "My husband has mobility problems, so having our own front door will make such a big difference to his quality of life. It's as if Christmas, birthdays and every other celebration have come all at once."

Avonspark Street is one of three sites in the north of the city where GHA is investing £24.5million building homes.

Tenants serving on the three Local Housing Organisation committees - Unity, North Glasgow and Red Road Balornock - worked with Glasgow Housing Asociation on the specification and design of the properties for the first phase of the development.

Across the three sites, 185 two-bedroom homes and 54 three-bedroom homes are being built.

The modern fittings and fixtures include gas central heating and fitted kitchens.

Contracts have been signed for the second phase of the programme, which will deliver another 400 new homes at nine sites across Glasgow.
