POLICE probing the murder of a Glasgow man today took his beloved dog back to the spot where his body was found in a bid to trace his killer.

Jake Devine, 45, of Gadshill Street, Royston, was found dead in bushes at Cowlairs Park on July 16. His loyal dog Chico stayed by his body for around 72 hours.

The murder victim had been seen entering the park on July 10 with Chico.

Mr Devine's father John took the dog back to the park today to try to jog the memory of anyone who was there that night.

The 72-year-old said Jake was never without Chico. He added: "I hope somebody saw something suspicious and may report it. All I want to do is lay my boy to rest."

Jake's sister, Helen Devine, 44, from Easterhouse, is also desperate for information on the death.

She said: "I'd just love for somebody to come forward and give as much information as they can so we can put him to rest."

Detective Chief Inspector Ricky Mason said: "Despite extensive inquiries, we have been unable to clarify when Jake was last seen alive.

"We know that he entered Cowlairs Park at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, July 10. We do not know if he left the park that night and returned at a later date or whether it was some time that evening that he was killed.

"Taking Chico back to the scene may prompt the memories of the local community who perhaps saw him, either with Jake, or alone at the park."

Anyone who has any information about Mr Devine should call Kirkintilloch police office on 0141 532 4400 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
