HOLLYWOOD'S Ashley Jensen is the latest celebrity to back Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games bid.

The Scots star of hit TV comedy Ugly Betty said the city has exactly what it takes to host the spectacular sporting event.

She and actor John Barrowman of Glasgow teamed up to join the crusade to bring the Games here.

The 37-year-old actress, who also played Maggie in TV comedy series Extras, said: "Glasgow deserves to win the bid you can imagine the wonderful spirit, the smiles, the joy, the skill, the hospitality, the talent, and the pride of the hosts.

"It's a cool, cosmopolitan city."

Though born in Annan, near Dumfries, Ashley lived in Glasgow's Shawlands for a time.

Since landing a part in US TV hit series Ugly Betty she has moved to LA and transformed her life, recently marrying Terry Beesley.

She is now dazzling British TV viewers every Friday as Ugly Betty's confidante Christina.

Scots-American actor John Barrowman, who recently starred in Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood, has also outlined his support for Glasgow 2014.

John, who lived in Glasgow as a child, said: "Being a proud Scot and Glaswegian, I am delighted to support Scotland's Bid to host the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014.

"The energy, passion and humour throughout this great city will shine through and secure what will be another great achievement for Glasgow.

"It will also provide a lasting legacy for the people of Scotland."

A spokeswoman for the bid team said: "Both Ashley and John told us they would be delighted to come on board it's another marvellous boost for our campaign."

A host of sporting legends, including Olympic double gold winner Kip Keino, have backed the bid.

The Kenyan long distance runner - who took gold in both 1968 and 1972 - gave a talk to pupils at a Govan school, where he urged them to play their part in the Games by excelling in their chosen sports.

Glasgow's bid will go to the Commonwealth Games Committee in May and a final decision will be made in November.
