MORTON'S Jim McInally has confirmed that he has already been in contact with SFA disciplinary chief Drew Herbertson after the controversial end to the Ton's weekend clash with Hamilton.

The Cappielow club's fans, players and coaches were incensed when referee Craig Thomson chalked off a late Chris Templeman goal at New Douglas Park.

Hamilton players surrounded linesman Ross Haswell protesting that Templeman had handled the ball and Thomson then changed his decision.

Ton manager Macca and his assistant Martin Clark were incandescent as their team lost 1-0, and were both ordered off by the official.

But while the Morton gaffer wants an inquiry into Thomson's decision, McInally admitted he will not be appealing against his punishment.

Macca said: "I spoke to Drew Herbertson and I can confirm that neither Martin or I will appeal our two-game touchline ban.

"Nor do we have any problems with Hamilton, but we do have a problem with the referee clearly changing a decision that decided the outcome of the game, in the face of player pressure.

"This issue must be addressed. I will accept my punishment but the referee should be demoted or punished for his actions. If that had happened in a match involving Celtic or Rangers there would have been a full-scale riot."

Ton chairman Douglas Rae backed Macca.

In a statement on the club's website, Rae said: "I have sent a letter to the SFA complaining about the officials who disallowed a goal scored by Templeman.

"The referee and the assistant confirmed by their actions that the goal scored was valid. Photographic evidence shows the assistant running towards the halfway line, thereby signifying that he concurred with the referee's decision to award the goal.

"It would seem that following the bullying of the assistant by five Hamilton players, the assistant changed his decision about the validity of the goal.

"The officials let Morton down very badly. The view of everybody at the club is that once awarded and confirmed by the two officials, a goal should stand as given."
