The BBC have unveiled their new winter schedule - and one thing you can guaranteed is surprises.

The first shock is Glasgow internet comedian Limmy is set for his very own show.

Brian Limond, 34, the man behind cult website and blog hit Limmy's World of Glasgow, is to get his own comedy half-hour.

Limmy's Show will combine cutting observations and sketches from the controversial comedian from Carnwadric.

But the biggest surprise of all has to be that there's no sign of a new Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill comedy in the new line-up, as revealed exclusively in later editions of yesterday's Evening Times.

It was widely expected that TV bosses would announce that a show about two Glaswegians in space, written by and starring Kiernan and Hemphill, would be filmed and screened in the run up to Christmas.

But BBC chiefs couldn't say when the show would appear and showbiz insiders are now asking if Scotland's most famous comedy writing partnership is in trouble.

There was also no news on a planned Chewin' The Fat special, which had been lined up for Christmas.

But BBC bosses are still determined to provide laughs, and announced the creators of comedy show Legit, Robert Florence and Iain Connell, will write and perform a new sketch show featuring the residents of a fictional Scottish town named Burnistoun.

Two six-part studio-based sitcoms for BBC One will also air over the autumn/winter period. The Old Guys and Life of Riley.

The Old Guys stars Roger Lloyd Pack and Clive Swift as two elderly delinquents and Caroline Quentin will star in Life of Riley, which centres around second-time newly-weds and their dysfunctional family.

Also on the comedy board is No Holds Bard, a 60-minute comedy drama celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.

The show will star Ugly Betty actress Ashley Jensen, Bill Paterson and Denis Lawson.

Ford Kiernan will appear in the new series of sitcom Dear Green Place while Greg stars as Elvis in the Gaelic comedy Eilbheas.

In November Scotland's History, a major new project, spanning television, radio, online and events, begins and will run over two years.

New documentaries for BBC Two Scotland are Thatcher and the Scots and The Adventures of Don Roberto, an account of the colourful life of Robert Cunninghame Graham, a founder of the Scottish Labour Party and the first President of the Scottish National Party.

BBC Scotland's Head of Programmes Donalda MacKinnon said: "Our in-house teams and our partners in the independent sector will be delivering fantastic content over the coming weeks.

"Audiences are at the heart of what we do and we believe that our upcoming schedules will provide entertaining and engaging content for our viewers and listeners across Scotland."
