STAND-UP comic and radio host Mr Abie has died aged 68.

The former Radio Clyde presenter – real name Robert Abraham – died while visiting his son Darren in Ireland.

He passed away in on Sunday after previously battling throat cancer.

It is understood his remains will be cremated in Ireland with plans being made for a memorial service in his home town of East Kilbride.

Friend and fellow entertainer Dean Park paid tribute to Mr Abie who he described as a "lovely, happy man."

He said: "It is very sad. I last saw him a few weeks ago and he had been suffering from ill health for some time.

"He will be greatly missed - people will remember him fondly."

Mr Abie was popular in the 80s and also recor- ded a 1998 World Cup song for Scotland's international football side.

He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2006 and quit his popular radio show. In August 2010, it was reveal- ed he planned to remarry his ex-wife Jennifer.

He had five children with Jennifer and son Darren with his first wife Avril.
