Rangers starlet Lewis Macleod has targeted netting his first goal on the hallowed turf at Ibrox after signing a new deal with the club.

The 18-year-old, along with fellow teenagers Barrie McKay and Robbie Crawford, put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him in Light Blue for the next five years.

Macleod, who has been at the club since he was just 10, was delighted with the deal and believes that Ally McCoist has shown a lot of belief in the youngsters this term.

And after securing his long-term future at the club, the boyhood Rangers fan has now set his sights on netting for his beloved side.

"I've started every game so far so it shows that he [McCoist] has a lot of faith in the younger boys," he said.

"I am not much of a prolific goalscorer. I was a Rangers supporter as a boy so to score, especially at Ibrox, would be a brilliant feeling."

The trio have been regularly involved in the first team this term. With the club embarking on a journey in the Irn-Bru Third Division that they hope will lead back to the top flight, McCoist has used his young players often and has been keen to build a squad for the coming seasons

And given the acceleration into the senior ranks, Macleod is loving the chance to play regular football, despite the fact it is in the Third Division.

"I've still got a couple of years left, so to be offered a new deal is absolutely brilliant," he said.

"A couple of weeks ago, my agent spoke to me to tell me that the club wanted to offer me a new deal, so I was delighted.

"I didn't really expect to be playing first-team football until this happened, so to be playing week in, week out and then be rewarded with a new contract, it's fantastic."

Rangers are off to Annan this weekend to try and clock up their first away victory in the league, with the smaller grounds and pumped up opponents proving tricky to negotiate.

Crawford was part of a Rangers reserve side who won 1-0 in Annan on Wednesday night and he believes that the Ibrox outfit will have enough to prevail against the minnows.

"It is quite a tight pitch and it's quite a weird stadium because it only has the one stand but I'm sure there will be a great atmosphere," he said.

"Hopefully we should be able to go there and do it."

And Macleod is aware that the performances on the road so far have not been good enough, with only a Ramsdens Cup win in extra-time away to Brechin City to show for their efforts so far this season.

"The away performances haven't been up to scratch and most of the boys know that," said Macleod.

"We have shown that we can do it at home, but hopefully we can do it away this weekend."
