THERE have been many great European nights at Parkhead over the years and one of the most memorable was in 1983 when Celtic turned round a two-goal deficit against Sporting Lisbon...

PETER ROBERTS (Parkhead) – In 1983 Celtic played Sporting Lisbon in the Uefa Cup second round, second leg at Parkhead. Can you supply any details of the match?

Celtic lost the first leg 2-0 in Lisbon and faced a tough home tie to go through to the next round.

A 40,000 crowd saw Celtic win 5-0 to go through with a 5-2 aggregate score.

Three first-half goals by Burns, McAdam and McClair set up a great second half and further goals by McLeod and McGarvey sealed a tremendous victory and a great ovation from the home support.

T DOUGLAS (Kilwinning) – I have been told that Chelsea's first-ever manager was a former Rangers player. Can you confirm this and provide details?

In 1905, Chelsea appointed Jon Tait Robertson as their first manager. Sometimes referred to as "Jock" but more usually known as "Jackie", he was appointed on a player/manager basis.

Born in Dumbarton on February 25, 1877, he played for Morton, Everton and Southampton before joining Rangers in 1899.

With the Ibrox club he won three League Championships and the Scottish Cup in 1903.

He also won 16 international caps. As a player/manager at Chelsea, he had reasonable success and, in the club's first ever season, they finished third in the second division.

He actually played 39 times for Chelsea and helped to lay the foundations for the future of the club.

Sadly, Jackie died in January 1935 at the relatively young age of 58.

J DUNCAN (Cathcart) – I found out recently that Alex Ferguson started his playing career at Queen's Park. I was surprised as I thought he had started at St Johnstone. Could you clarify and also tell me how many former Queen's Park players are in the museum's Hall of Fame?

Sir Alex made his debut for Queen's Park as a 16-year-old in a 2-1 defeat away to Stranraer in 1957.

He played over 30 League games for Queen's before joining St Johnstone in 1960. He also played for Dunfer- mline Athletic, Rangers, Falkirk and Ayr United.

In addition to Alex Fergu-son the Football Museum's Hall of Fame includes four other former "Spiders".

They are R.S. McColl, Charles Campbell, Alan Morton and Ronnie Simpson.
