A GANG of thieves stole more than £100,000 worth of hair straighteners during a raid on an industrial estate in East Renfrewshire.

Police are hunting the trio who made off with around 800 sets of designer GHD straighteners – each worth between £100 and £150 .

Detectives probing the theft from Beauty Express and Salon Services in Thornliebank Industrial Estate, are urging people to be vigilant if offered expensive straightening irons at bargain prices.

The robbers broke into the Evanton Drive site, by smashing a window, at around 9.30pm on Saturday.

CCTV from the scene shows the thieves loading the straighteners into the back of a black Transit van.

Around 45 minutes later, the brazen gang returned to the industrial estate to steal even more straighteners.

Horrified staff discovered the raid when they arrived for work at 8am on Monday morning.

Detective Constable Murray Rolley, from Pollok CID, said: "The staff have now had an opportunity to check all their stock and there has been around 800 sets of hair straighteners stolen in this robbery.

"They are each valued between £100-£150 per unit.

"I am appealing to anyone who was around the Evanton Drive, Nitshill Road area around 9.30pm on Saturday to contact me.

"I am also very keen to speak to anyone who saw a black Transit style vehicle in the area to get in touch, as there are not many black vans of this style on the roads.

"Finally, if anyone is offered a set of GHD straighteners for sale, not through an authorised outlet, please get in touch.

"I have no doubt, that with Christmas approaching, these suspects will try to sell them on to the unsuspecting public."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Pollok Police Office on 0141 532 5600.
