CROWDS are expected to gather at a shop set up to sell only one item - the last printed edition of The Dandy, which was released today.

Fans of the comic want to get their hands on the historic last copy, 75 years after it was first published.

Newsagent Des Barr has decided to cash in by setting up an outlet to sell the comic at Braehead shopping centre after hundreds of requests from people to order a copy.

Mr Barr said they had turned up at his Sinclair Barr Newsagent, in Paisley, in the past few days to find out when they could get their copy.

He said: "I have never known anything like it.

"My staff will be posting the comic out to people all over the country.

"People are buying the comic to send to relatives and friends all over the world and many people are using this last issue as a stocking filler at Christmas.

"I realised there was a huge demand when more and more people asked me to order the final Dandy for them.

"I reckoned if there was that kind of demand in one area of Paisley, there would be the same demand all over Scotland.

"I approached Braehead about creating a temporary shop selling only the comic and they were great about it. It's fantastic how they are supporting a small business from Paisley like this."

Peter Beagley, Braehead's general manager, said: "We must be the only shopping centre in the country with a shop selling only one item – The Dandy. But there appears to be a massive demand for the final issue and I'm sure Des will do well.

"The Dandy's famous cowboy character, Dan, might be desperate, but it's the public who are really desperate to get their hands on the last edition."

You can get your copy at Braehead's upper mall, or call 0141 889 9879 or 0141 561 7007. You can also e-mail news@sinclairbarr newsagents.co.uk or text 07717438565 or see: www.lasteverdandy.com.
