IT was billed as the night when acting royalty, in the form of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, would be visiting a Scots palace.
But a fashion night at Linlithgow Palace to launch Chanel's Metiers d'Art collection was a major disappointment for the hundreds of fans who braved the freezing temperatures to line the streets for a glimpse of the Hollywood stars – because there was no sign of them.
Instead, it was the French brand's creative director Karl Lagerfeld who took all the applause as the collection, heavily inspired by Scottish designs and fabrics, was presented within the walls of the 15th century palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen Of Scots.
An audience of about 400 invited guests from the international fashion world, including model Poppy Delevigne, watched the show, which began and ended with appearances from Scots model Stella Tennant.
Lagerfeld said afterwards: "I loved the location. The way the show was staged was exactly what I wanted."
Around 200 Chanel staff helped prepare the palace for the event.
