THE body of a young man has been found in the River Clyde in Glasgow city centre more than a month after he went missing.

Police today confirmed the body of 24-year-old Craig McCaffrey has been recovered from the water.

At the time of his disappearance, Craig was wearing a gorilla costume, as he had been at a fancy dress party at the city's O2 Academy venue.

Police today said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

As reported by the Evening Times on Tuesday, a man's body was was pulled from the River Clyde, close to the Science Centre at Pacific Quay, on Monday morning.

Craig, from Castle-milk was last seen at about 8.45pm on Friday October 26, after leaving a Hallowe'en party with his brother and two friends in Eglinton Street.

He was last seen heading in the direction of Bridge Street, still wearing his gorilla costume.

At the time, police said his disappearance was "completely out of character".

Police carried out an extensive search of the local area in Glasgow's South Side.

Officers also made door-to-door enquiries, checked CCTV images from on-street cameras and spoke to family and friends in an effort to trace Craig.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police, said today: "Around 10.05am on Monday, the body of a man was recovered from the River Clyde near to the Science Centre.

"We can now confirm that the man has been identified as 24-year-old Craig McCaffrey, who was last seen on a night out with friends in Eglinton Street, Glasgow on Friday October 26.

"Relatives are aware and a full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

"A post mortem examination has now been carried out, and police are not treating the death as suspicious."

Today, friends and family posted tribute messages to Craig on social networking sites.

One wrote: "RIP Craig, glad you have been found and you can finally be at rest."

Another friend added: "My thoughts are with your family and friends, such a tragedy."
