THE 2015 World Gymnastics Championships are coming to Scotland for the first time...
bringing a £5million boost to the city.
Sport bosses announced this morning that the Championships will be held in Glasgow.
It will be one of the largest sporting events ever to be held in the city, with an estimated 500 gymnasts from 80 countries taking part in 10 days of world-class competition.
And bosses claim it will bring £5m in economic benefit to Scotland's economy.
The event will be held in The Hydro – the new £120m, 12,000-seat entertainment arena currently under constructionat the SECC – between October 23 and November 1, 2015.
Councillor Gordon Matheson said: "The World Gymnastics Championships will bring together the world's best gymnasts for what will be an incredible 10 days of competition in a genuinely world-class venue."
The Hydro will openin September 2013.
Meanwhile, tomorrow will see Glasgow's new Emirates Arena host the gymnastics World Cup event in front of a 5000-strong sell out crowd.
Glasgow is one of only four cities hosting World Cup events.
