PENSIONERS enjoyed a Yuletide feast with Glasgow's Lord Provost.

The meal is part of the Senior Citizens' Christmas Lunches – and it is the first time the city's new Lord Provost Sadie Docherty has hosted the annual event. Encore, the catering arm of Cordia, served guests at the event, a Glasgow City Council tradition for more than 30 years.

A total of 250 pensioners will be served each day until Friday.

Guests are serenaded by a different school choir each day as they arrive in the City Chambers, and senior pupils from 14 secondary schools across the city will also help serve each lunch sitting.

Ms Docherty said: "The Senior Citizens lunch is a wonderful way for the city to demonstrate the high regard it has for its elderly citizens who helped build and shape Glasgow.

"It is a jolly affair and a great day out for everyone."

The event, which takes place over five days, sees Encore staff preparing and stuffing 55 massive turkeys, peeling around 4500 potatoes and 9000 carrots, and individually wrapping 1250 chipolatas in bacon.

Jenny McIntyre, food and beverage services manager at the City Chambers, said: "This is the busiest time of the year for us and that is why we begin planning for this event in September."
