ONE lucky Glasgow school could be in line for an eco-makeover worth up to a massive £135,000 thanks to an exciting competition.

The Evening Times' Streets Ahead campaign has teamed up with British Gas to help turn the winning school into one of the most energy efficient in the country.

All nursery, primary, secondary and assisted support for learning schools in Glasgow are eligible to enter the contest, part of the utility firm's Generation Green education programme, designed to help schools save energy and reduce their bills.

There is also a chance to install a range of equipment and new technology, including:

n Solar panels

n Heating, ventilation and air conditioning

n Solar Thermal Systems

n Advanced room thermostats

n LED Lighting

n Cavity wall / loft insulation

n Smart meters/smart home energy management

n Energy-saving bulbs

n Heat pumps

n Efficient hot water generation

Kate Lemon, program-me manager for British Gas Generation Green said: "We're thrilled to be able to make this investment to help a school in Glasgow become one of the most energy efficient in the country.

"The aim of the British Gas Generation Green programme is to help schools to manage their energy bills and inspire young people to be curious about the future of energy.

"So we hope that opportunity to have an energy makeover will help reduce costs and give pupils at the winning school a new way of learning about being sustainable and sharing what they learn with their local community.

"The competition is open to all schools in Glasgow and I urge everyone to get involved."

British Gas' Generation Green is a practical and innovative education programme designed to help teachers, students, schools and communities save energy (and reduce their bills), educate the next generation about how everyone can reduce their impact on the environment and inspire them to become future energy innovators.

More than 12,000 schools are signed up to the programme, which provides them with free teaching resources, educational experiences and energy makeovers. Individuals, businesses and community facilities, like schools, are coming under increasing pressure from rising fuel bills and more ambitious emissions targets.

To enter just tell us in 50 words or fewer why your school deserves to win the prize.

Send your entry to generationgreen@bluerubicon.com with this information: the name and address of the school, whether it is a nursery, ASL, primary or secondary, your name and relationship to the school and why you think your school should win.

Closing date for entries is Monday, January 14 at noon.
