NEW mum Cheryl McGarvey was beaming with joy after her daughter became the first Christmas baby in Scotland this year.

Little Lacy Angela McElhinney was born in Glasgow's Southern General Hospital at 12.16am.

Cheryl, 26, a beauty therapist from Clydebank, was recovering at home last night after the birth.

The hospital said both mum and baby were doing well.

A spokeswoman from the hospital said: "She was delighted.

"It was a straightforward birth. Mum went home to enjoy the rest of Christmas Day with her newborn."

Proud parents across the country were celebrating the arrival of Scotland's Christmas babies today.

Hot on Lacy's heels was another girl, Lucy Thirtle, who was born in Ayrshire Maternity Unit, at Cross-house hospital, Kilmarnock, at 12.55am and weighed in at 6lb 1.5oz.

She is a proud addition to the family for her mother Jacqueline Clark, from Dalmellington, where she lives with partner Shaun Thirtle and Lucy's 16-year-old brother Dylan.

Others who arrived on Christmas Day included Luke, delivered at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at 1.14am, to Julie Knight and William Reid, from Prestonpans, East Lothian.

Luke weighed 8lb and the hospital said both mother and baby were doing well.

Shortly after, another boy was born. Cody McLean arrived at 1.32am at St John's Hospital, Livingston, to his parents Antonia, 26, and Colin McLean, 32.

The newborn weighed 8lb 9.5oz.

Jonathan Joseph Kerr was the first child born on Christmas Day at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

He came into the world at 2.12am to parents Rebecca Killen, 20, and Jonathan Kerr, 22, who are from Helensburgh.

Two-year-old Liam Killen said the arrival of his baby brother on Christmas Day was the "best present from Santa".

Mum Rebecca had been expecting him 11 days ago.

She was finally induced on Christmas Eve and he arrived in the early hours of December 25, weighing 8lb 1oz.

Rebecca said: "He was supposed to come on the 14th but I ended up being induced on Christmas Eve.

"It's been amazing to have a Christmas Day baby, absolutely amazing.

"It's been non-stop with visitors bringing Christmas presents and baby gifts.

"Liam says its his best present from Santa.

"Maybe next time we'll have to try for a New Year baby."
