WORKERS showed their bottle by raising thousands of pounds for cancer victims when they staged a pink-themed fundraising day.

A staggering £10,000 was raised by employees at the Chivas Regal bottling plant in Kilmalid, Dumbarton.

Workers at the Paisley-based whisky and gin producer dug deep to raise £5000 through a series of events, such as a baking sale, raffle, disco and several prize draws.

Staff who failed to wear pink were also "fined."

However, a doubling up scheme saw bosses at Chivas Brothers match every £1 raised, meaning the eventually tally was £10,000.

As a result, St Margaret's Hospice in Clydebank, Robin House, Cancer Research UK, St Andrew's Hospice in Airdrie, Vale of Leven Hospital's Oncology Ward, The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, Maggie's Centre, Macmillan Cancer Support, Movember and Marie Curie will each receive a £1000 donation.

One of the organisers was staff member Karen Dockrey, who said: "This was our second pink day at Kilmalid, so we were overjoyed that we managed to raise twice as much as last year, and therefore help twice as many charities.

"We couldn't have done it without the huge generosity of our fellow employees, and of course the doubling up donation from the company."

Manaufacturing director Alister McIntosh said: "The fact that the team managed to raise so much in a single day is outstanding.

"Our employees do so much for charity, and they have chosen ten very worthy recipients for these £1000 donations."
