THE Women's 10K in Glasgow has a new sponsor – and a new name.
Nova International, the company behind some of the UK's biggest televised mass participation sports events, will work in partnership with race organiser Glasgow Life to stage the event on May 12.
The new sponsor, which organises the Bupa Great North Run, will rebrand the event as the Bupa Great Women's 10K.
Nova International has also signed up to stage the Great Scottish Run in the city as part of a "long-term relationship" with Glasgow Life.
Organisers hope the new partnership will boost numbers and attract more elite runners to the city.
The news comes just 24 hours after the Evening Times reported that the Men's Health Forum 10K will go ahead with a new sponsor, anti-stigma mental healthcharity 'see me', after initial fears over funding.
This year's Women's 10K will mark the 20th anniversary of the event, which is now the biggest female road race in the UK. The Evening Times has been media partner for more than 15 years and more than £1m is raised each year for charity.
Last year, about 10,000 women completed the run.
Previous title sponsor Ignis Asset Management ended its 16-year partnership with Glasgow Life last year.
Nova International, established in 1988 by former Olympic medallist Brendan Foster, will also take on the organisation of the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow.
It is Scotland's largest mass participation event and had a record 23,000 runners last year. The Bank Of Scotland will remain the title sponsor but the event, which comprises a half marathon, 10K, family run and junior runs, will move from the first weekend in September to October 5 and 6. Highlights will be televised, building up to full live coverage in 2017.
Councillor Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life and the council's spokesman for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, said: "This partnership will enable us to encourage more people to make physical activity part of their daily lifestyle."
