GLASGOW was expected to see a flurry of snow today although it is not expected to cause disruption.

Weather forecasters were predicting a day of light but "fairly persistent" snow showers in the Strathclyde area.

However, temperatures should stay above freezing, with a maximum temperature of 3C and the snowfall will ease by the end of the day.

Heavier snow is expected in Central Scotland and early morning commuters were being warned to prepare for disruption.

The Met Office has issued amber weather warnings for eastern Scotland, urging the public to "be prepared".

Alerts have been issued for the Borders, north-east Fife, Perth & Kinross, Angus, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

Meanwhile, Britain was blanketed in snow again as winter's grip on the nation got tighter and brought more travel misery to the roads, rail and air.

Across the country snow fell and combined with layers of ice to create hazardous motoring conditions.

Train operators implemented reduced services which are set to continue today, and at Heathrow Airport more flights were cancelled for a third successive day.

Yesterday, bosses cancelled 260 flights, 20% of Heathrow's usual business, and today 10% of flights will not operate.
