Award joy for Glasgow-based sitcom Mrs Brown's Boys

At the star-studded event, in London's 02 last night and shown on ITV, a roar went up when Mrs Brown's Boys – screened on BBC Scotland and recorded at Pacific Quay, Glasgow – saw off competition from Absolutely Fabulous, Benidorm and The Big Bang Theory to be named best sitcom.

From its early stage shows at the city's Pavilion Theatre, the tales of Agnes Brown and her family have found nationwide fame.

Writer and performer Brendan O'Carroll thanked fans of the show, in which he stars with his real-life wife, sister and daughter.

The first award, for entertainment programme, was presented to I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Two contestants who survived last year's stint in the jungle, Helen Flanagan along with Ashley Roberts, picked up the award.

Scots actress Phyllis Logan, who plays housekeeper Mrs Hughes ITV1 drama series Downton Abbey, paid tribute to the series' writer Julian Fellowes, saying: "His imagination has captured the imagination of a lot of you all around the world."

Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh wowed the audience with her solo single One Day I'll Fly Away.

The award for serial drama performance went to Coronation Street's Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone in the ITV soap which took the award for serial drama, seeing off the challenge of EastEnders.

However, EastEnders was not to miss out as actor David Witts, who plays Joey Branning in the BBC soap, won the newcomer award.

This Morning was named best daytime programme, hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield accepting the award.
