A PROFESSOR has been awarded a prestigious grant to research the work of a famous Scots architect.

Paisley-based Professor Sam McKinstry, from the University of the West of Scotland, was given £88,000 from the Leverhulme Trust for the project, which will look at work of architect Sir George Gilbert Scott.

Sir George designed many Glasgow buildings, including the Gilmorehill Campus of Glasgow University, renamed the Gilbert Scott building, and St Mary's Cathedral in Great Western Road.

Professor McKinstry said: "There have been few historical case studies so far looking at the management of architectural practices in particular.

"This funding will enable us to do just that by looking at the work of Sir George Scott."
