AN AXE-THREATENED school made famous in hit film Gregory's Girl could be given a one-year stay of execution.
North Lanarkshire Council officers have recommended that councillors vote to close Abronhill High and transfer pupils to Cumbernauld High. But they also suggest Abronhill stay open a further year.
The area's SNP MSP Jamie Hepburn said the one-year delay is not enough.
A consultation on the proposal drew an overwhelmingly negative res- ponse from the public.
Education Scotland – responsible for inspecting Scotland's schools – said the educational benefits of the closure plan were limited.
The council's learning and leisure services committee meet on February 6 to make a decision.
