DETECTIVES have identified a man who was found dead in the grounds of a country estate.

Police said they were working to trace his next of kin and family, after the man's body was discovered on Carnell Estates near Hurlford, East Ayrshire.

As reported in the weekend edition of the Evening Times, police confirmed that the body had been found at 10.30am on Friday, in the grounds of the estate, next to the A76 near Mauchline.

Police were last night treating the death as unexplained.

The body was found next to a river, about 50 yards from the busy A6 Kilmarnock to Dumfries road.

Police sealed off the only road into Carnell Estates on Saturday, while the A6 was reduced to one lane to allow police teams to park. The body was later removed for a post mortem examination.
