CLUBBERS who caused a near riot on a busy Glasgow street after leaving a nightclub have been spared jail.

Fahad Said, 22, and Gary Haldane, 21, left the Sugarcube club on September 21, last year, and joined a 100-strong mob which caused chaos on the street. Jack Fraser, 19, joined the mob after leaving another, nearby club.

Defence lawyer Callum Weir, for Said, told the court there was a Red Bull promotion on the club.

He said: "It's not an alcoholic drink, it is a high sugar, high caffeine drink.

"Effectively, when all the individuals were leaving the club they were still in high spirits and somewhat energised.

"It's the accused position for his part he saw this as a continuation of the party in the nightclub."

At Glasgow Sheriff Court Said, from Royston, Glasgow and Fraser, from Clydebank, admitted jumping around in the road and blocking traffic.

Said ran over a car that was trying to drive through the crowd, damaging it, before standing on another vehicle.

The pair – who were handed community payback orders by sheriff Sam Cathcart – jumped on bins, shouted and swore and challenged police officers to fight.

Said was electronically tagged and given a four and half month 7pm-7am curfew. Fraser was ordered to carry out 180 hours' unpaid work.

Haldane, from Glasgow – who admitted throwing a bottle that smashed – was admonished.
