EXCITEMENT is building for Glasgow Women's 10K – and it is set to be the biggest event yet.

The route for the Bupa Great Women's 10K has just been revealed and it is set to take in the south of the city, including Pollokshields and Pollok Park.

This year's race – and May 12 – will mark the 20th anniversary of the event.

The Evening Times has been media partner for more than 15 years and more than £1million is raised each year for charity.

Jenny Griggs, event manager for organisers Nova International said: "The Bupa Great Women's 10K starts on Nithsdale Road with early stages of the race heading through leafy Pollokshields.

"The wide roads through the first 3km provide plenty of space to run in and a great opportunity for spectators to show their support.

"At 4km the runners can rehydrate at the first of two water stations on course before heading into Pollok Park. At around 6km the route hits the only hill on course and, although it is a little testing, fear not as you have the chance to grab another bottle of water before you take it on.

"After Pollok Park, the cherry on the cake is the fantastic finish on Mosspark Boulevard, where runners, joggers and walkers alike will all be cheered across the line.

"Throughout the course, runners will be boosted by various 'bands on the run' and course entertainment."

Last year, about 10,000 women completed the run.

Chairman of Glasgow Life and Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games, Councillor Archie Graham, said: "The Bupa Great Women's 10K is such a special day and the atmosphere enjoyed by the thousands of women who participate each year is simply electric.

"I'm confident that with Bupa and Nova International on board, this year's race will be a huge success."
