A WOMAN who was not selected to stand as a Labour candidate is claiming it is because she is too old.

Anna Dyer, 63, – who was an unsuccessful candidate in 2011 – is now suing the party for £18,000 citing age and sex discrimination.

She has lodged a civil claim at Glasgow Sheriff Court against the party.

Ms Dyer, from Kelvinside, Glasgow, claims that "The majority of rejected candidates and councillors were over the age of 50.

"The Defenders were motivated consciously or subconsciously by age of candidates in determining which candidates would be chosen."

The party are challenging the claims.

The papers state Ms Dyer has "sustained loss, injury and damage and in particular injury to feelings."

An evidential hearing will take place in June.
