A YOUNG man was stabbed and robbed of his mobile phone by three thugs as he made his way home in the South Side of Glasgow.

The 25-year-old was attacked by the gang of men as he was walked through Plantation Park, near Kinning Park Underground, at around 10pm on Saturday.

After leaving the underground station, the victim was confronted by three men. He was hit on the head before being stabbed.

The attackers stole his mobile phone and ran off in an unknown direction.

Police today slammed the trio as "despicable and cowardly".

The injured man was taken to the Southern General Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

Hospital staff described his condition as "stable".

Strathclyde Police have launched an investigation and have urged any witnesses to come forward.

No description of the three male attackers is available.

PC Graeme Provan, from Govan Police Office, said: "This is a despicable and cowardly crime, carried out on a man who was just heading home.

"It has been a terrifying experience for him.

"We are carrying out door to door enquiries and checking CCTV footage to try to find the males responsible.

"I'd urge anyone who was in the area, particularly within the park at the time, or anyone with information to contact Govan Police Office."
