A CITY sportswear firm has been unveiled as the official provider of the Glasgow 2014 uniforms.

Clothing manufacturer Trespass will design, manufacture and supply the uniforms to be worn by the army of up to 15,000 volunteers and members of the Games workforce during the Common-wealth Games, next summer.

The company, which originated in Glasgow – where its global headquarters is located – as Jacobs and Turner Limited, is the official casual uniform provider.

The firm was acquired by the Khushi family in the 1960s and is managed by brothers Afzal and Akmal Khushi, who established the Trespass brand in 1984. It is one of the UK's fastest growing brands, with 140 stores and another 40 set to open in the next 12 months.

Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg said: "I am delighted to welcome such a great Glasgow success story into the Glasgow 2014 family of sponsors."

Trespass will also design, manufacture and supply clothing to be worn by those accompanying the Queen's Baton Relay as it moves through the Commonwealth in the build-up to the Games.

Afzal Khushi said: "We are incredibly excited to play our part in making the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games a resounding success.

"The year 2014 was always going to be special for us since we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Trespass brand. We can think of no better way to mark this land-mark date in our history than to help show the world what our home city has to offer."

Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison, said: "It's fantastic to see another successful Scottish business playing such a key role in supplying the Games."

Councillor Archie Graham, executive member for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow City Council, said thathaving products made by a city company on such prominent display will show "how the city can compete on the world stage".
