FAT is good for you - so says a study by researchers from University of the West of Scotland.
The research, Food for thought: Have we been giving the wrong dietary advice?, challenges the Seven Countries study, the work behind the 1984 nutritional guidelines, which has had a profound influence on the diets of the UK and US for the last 30 years.
The study saw academics at UWS assess 20 volumes of the Seven Countries study and review the evidence upon which the NICE guidance was based.
Zoe Harcombe of UWS's Institute of Clinical Exercise and Health Science, said: "This research highlights the need eat natural foods such as eggs, meat, fish and vegetables."
