CALL it the Olympic bounce, or pre-Commonwealth Games fever, but demand for sports and fitness gear has never been higher.

As thousands of women prepare to pound the streets of Glasgow for the Bupa Great Women's 10k on Sunday, sports shops around the city are reporting a big demand for clothing that's both functional and fashionable.

To show off some of the latest men's fitness and swimwear styles, the Evening Times called upon Glasgow Warriors rugby star Chris Fusaro to model.

The 23-year-old flanker, who is returning from injury, is in contention as his side take on Irish titans Leinster in the RaboDirect semi-final play-off in Dublin tomorrow evening.

One of the rising stars of the Scottish game, he tried on a range of training and swimming gear from Glasgow-based Greaves Sports.

"Mainly I'm looking for performance clothing when I'm playing rugby, but if it looks good as well then that's always a bonus," said Chris, who lives in the West End.

Cupar-born Chris, who signed for Glasgow Warriors in summer 2010, turned out for Scotland A at the IRB Nations Cup in Romania as well as representing his country at under-20 and under-18 level.

The former chemical engineering student said the facilities at his team's revamped home at Scotstoun has given the players a lift.

"It's absolutely fantastic. We've got a new gym there with all our training facilities and an artificial pitch," said Chris.

The semi-final, starting at 7.35pm, will be shown live on BBC Alba.
