It doesn’t come much more west of Scotland than square sausage, so to kick off this new feature of food lists, we’ve asked Yelp Glasgow to recommend 10 places where you can get your hands on some of that delicious slice, to dine-in, takeaway, or cook at home.

1. Café Wander, 110 West George Street, Glasgow G2 1QJ

Breakfast rolls aplenty at Café Wander and Yelpers can’t resist square sausage with red onion and ketchup! Friendly staff and good food mean this is a city centre delight. This place fills up at lunchtime, so you might have to grab your food to go if you can’t nab a seat.

2. Coffee Etc, 150 Queen Margaret Drive, Glasgow G20 8NY

Here you’ll find decent café food, and reasonable prices. Pop in to pick up a roll with square sausage which you can enjoy takeaway, or dine in if you prefer to put your feet up. The service is warm and friendly and may leave you feeling like ‘you’re round to visit your auntie or grannie’s house’ such is the hospitality!

3. Kings Café, 71 Elmbank Street, Glasgow G2 4PQ

Conveniently located near the nightlife of Sauchiehall and Bath Streets, Kings Café does ‘comfort food in a comfortable setting’. 1930s booths and serving breakfast to supper, square sausage is a feature on the menu here. As far as fast food goes, it’s good nosh!

4. Country Shop, 225 Clarkston Road, Glasgow G44 3DS

A small, cosy, friendly butchers located on the Southside with chatty staff who can provide cooking tips. Yelpers say the square sausage is delicious and the prices are reasonable. You can also pick up rolls while you’re here, meaning your home-cooked breakfast will be ready in no time.

5. New York Jacks, 1009 Cathcart Road, Mount Florida G42 9XJ

A takeaway on the Southside dishing up bad boys? Don’t be alarmed – it’s the name of their toasted baguette with square sausage, black pudding, egg and potato scone. ‘Top notch staff’, great coffee and cracking caramel shortcake, you’ll find something for everyone’s taste here.

6. Gusto & Relish, 729-731 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow G41 2AA

Making their own sausage, you can get your roll takeaway or eat in the bright, light and airy café. Slightly spiced, you’ll find the slightly higher price tag is worth it for a real treat. They also have soup, open sandwiches and hot drinks and there are more interesting options like a ploughman’s platter.

7. North Star Café and Bistro, 108 Queen Margaret Drive, Glasgow G20 8NZ

If you’re looking for a café with a warm greeting, then this is the place. You’ll struggle to find a seat on busy days but can get your square sausage roll to go. Generosity with the potato scones is always appreciated, and here you’ll find them laying on two scones to a roll – nice!

8. James Chapman Butchers, 12-14 Brandon Parade, Motherwell ML1 1ZW

‘Hidden away in Brandon Parade, so make sure you don’t miss it!’ High quality meats, square sausage as well as fishmonger means you can get all your weekly proteins in the one place. Topped off with knowledgeable staff to steer you in the right direction.

9. G Buchanan and Co, 5 Burnbank Centre, Hamilton ML3 9HH

A butcher with a tasty display is always enticing, especially if you’ve got your eyes on square sausage! Yelp reviewers proclaim the staff are smiley and friendly, and extra spice can be added to your meat if you wish. Also stocking the staple of square sausage, this is a butcher worth visiting if you happen to be out east.

10. The Tea Cosy, 25 Douglas Street, Milngavie G62 6PE

A welcoming café that somewhat resembles a church hall and is decorated with teapots. Square sausage shines, as well as other roll fillings to take your fancy. Other menu options include sandwiches, soup, baked potatoes, cakes and other treats.
