ALL weddings are special occasions, but one family had a great, great reason to celebrate.

Five generations of the same family were brought together when Lisa McKeown and Stephen Brown, who live in Hogganfield, in the north east of Glasgow, tied the knot.

The couple's children, Jack, 10, and three-year-old Riley joined the happy couple along with the boys' great-great grandmother, Mary Milligan, 88, from Provanmill.

Lisa's mum Mary McKeown, 49, from Ruchazie, and grandmother Sarah Kelly, 68, from Provanmill, completed the five generations.

The 32-year-old bride, who works in administration for her husband's company, said: "It's nice to have everyone here, like my great-gran – it's so special to have everyone share your day with you.

"We must look after ourselves to have five generations.

"We're all quite close – we all stay within 10 minutes of each other.

"We'll talk about the boys' great-great gran, but to the kids they just think it's their gran like all the other ones.

"It's nice when you see kids so young with people who have been here for so long."

The couple, who have been together for 13 years, married at the Garfield House Hotel, in Stepps, on Friday.

Ninety day-time guests watched Lisa being given away by Jack, while toddler Riley was a pageboy. They were joined by another 90 guests in the evening.

The couple have been engaged for six years after tyre business owner Stephen, 35, popped the question on Christmas Day, concealing the ring as a stocking filler.

The former neighbours met through Stephen's sister, Claire, Lisa's long-time friend and also her bridesmaid.

Lisa added: "We did it all back-to-front in having the kids, then we bought a house, and there was always something that came up, always something else we had to do.

"We'd spoken about going away and getting married but you want all your family there to enjoy it."

Lisa's great-aunt, Ann Kindred, who lives in Glasgow's High Street, added: "Lisa was the youngest of five generations when she was born, so the baby is now getting married herself and has kids. We enjoy family gatherings. We still go on holidays together."
