THERE'S one question on the lips of horse- racing fans this evening: are you saint or a sinner?

One of Scotland's most glitzy occasions is under starter's orders at Hamilton Park Racecourse where thousands are expected to turn out for the annual Saints & Sinners fixture.

The charity racing event, which helps support more than 100 Scottish charities by awarding grants, is set to attract a mix of celebrity fans and horse-racing purists.

The dress code for the Super Six meeting rivals the glamour of Royal Ascot, with many punters choosing to incorporate the traditional red and white colours into their outfits.

Models Sinéad McQuade and Debbie Shaw were only too happy to showcase a selection of clothes from Glasow's St Enoch Centre inspired by the signature colour palette.

Debbie, 25, of Houston in Renfrewshire, said: "All the outfits you see when you come here are so elegant and lovely.

"Women make such an effort to go racing. You don't see hats and fascinators on an everyday basis.

"I like to wear colours normally - I try to stay away from black."

Beauty therapist Sinéad, 21, of Lanark, added: "I'm probably more of a sinner - I like fitted dresses and red is a really good colour for summer or winter.

"I'll definitely be buying a few of the outfits from today. They look so grand but they're not too expensive."

In addition to a seven-strong racecard attracting a prize fund of £39,000, there will be plenty of action off the course with a best dressed couple competition, live music from Jim McMail, fire performers, dancers, jugglers and stiltwalkers.

The fixture made a return to Hamilton Park last year after a four-year hiatus.

In more than 40 outings at the Lanarkshire racecourse, the Saints & Sinners night has attracted the Princess Royal riding in the amateur races and appearances from Desert Orchid.

Hamilton Park chief executive Vivien Kyles said: "The enduring popularity of Saints & Sinners is testament to the tremendous goodwill and affection our visitors have for this special night.

"Every year our visitors embrace the fun-filled, glamorous spirit of the Saints & Sinners evening and dig deep to help raise funds for good causes across Scotland."
