School's out for summer… time to indulge your creative side. There are lots of arty activities happening around the city over the coming weeks. Here's our pick of the best.

BOOK SCULPTURES AND DECOPATCH

Yvonne Macfarlane and and Anni Kennedy of Damselfly Crafts in the west end have run this quirky art boutique for seven years, selling craft supplies and running weekly workshops for children and adults. (They have even been featured on telly, thanks to Kirstie Allsop and her vintage crafts programme).

They are hosting workshops in the Merchant City next month, dedicated to recycling old books and decoupage. They have given the latter - the traditional art of decorating an object by gluing on coloured paper cut-outs - a modern twist and called it Decopatch. Learn how to make your own decorated treasure to take home or turn an old book into your own work of art by learning how to fold, cut and decorate its pages into fabulous pop-out sculptures.

The workshops take place on July 27 from 11am until 6pm at the Old Fruitmarket, as part of the Merchant City Festival and they are suitable for all ages. It costs £3 for Book Sculptures and £8 for Decopatch.Call 0141 353 8000 for more information.

WE DRAW THE SPORT

Join in a fun workshop to help launch an exhibition of drawings inspired by the Commonwealth Games, all done by Glasgow's children. The best drawing will be included in the exhibition. The workshop takes place on July 25, from 5pm until 7pm in Café Cossachok in King Street in the Merchant City and admission is free. It's suitable for five to 11 years - find out more by calling 0141 553 0733.

GO TO GOMA

The Gallery of Modern Art in Royal Exchange Square is running fun, sometimes messy, art workshops for three to 12-year-olds every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from July 1 to August 10, in addition to its usual Saturday Art Club, which runs from 10.30am until 12 noon. Themes coming up at the Saturday club include Exciting Embossing (make lumpy bumpy pummelled paper) and Painting in Public (large-scale painting in the sun, weather permitting.) Discover more by calling 0141 287 3050.

GO WILD IN THE COUNTRY

If you don't know your rag-rugging from your clay cookies, head to the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride for some lessons in how to Go Wild this summer. There are lots of activities planned over the summer months, from photography and badge making to den-making and crafts. Booking is essential, so find out more by calling 0300 123 6789.

JUMPING CLAY

It's modelling clay, but not as we know it. Jasmine-scented, air-drying, non-toxic and crucially, MESS FREE, this is the new art sensation that is sweeping the nation (well, the south side of Glasgow at any rate). The Jumping Clay Academy at Museum Business Park in Nitshill runs activities for all the family, and weekly clubs AND birthday parties. It's clever stuff - it dries naturally in the air and can be used to create any model or character, pictures, fridge magnets, decorations, key chains, or even an imprint of a new baby's hand or foot.
